A Unified Documentation Experience

4 hardware platforms, 2 programming languages, 220,000+ pages of content, a 10 year old design, 20 million users.

As lead UX designer, I redesigned the learning materials Apple Developer’s depend on.

Principles for Design

Based on interviews and contextual inquires, I developed the following user-centered principles for design:

  1. Fast, easy access to content

  2. Clarity of context

  3. Design an Ecosystem

  4. Respect developer’s workflow

  5. Inspire through design

Type Pages

Goal: Design for the way developers actually work.

A huge insight in my user research was that developers never want to leave the keyboard. They command+f to find everything and our expanding/collapsing content was hiding answers.
